Mijn naam is Jet, ik ben 54 jaar, getrouwd en moeder van twee dochters (28 en 22 jaar) en een zoon (18 jaar). Sinds 2007 ben ik gegrepen door de Klassieke Chinese geneeskunde en heb ik mij verdiept in de acupunctuur. Vanaf het moment dat ik hoorde van het bestaan van een Doula, was ik verkocht! Dat was precies wat ik wilde gaan doen. Geboorte en zwanger-zijn heeft mij altijd gefascineerd en in kleine (familie)kring was ik eigenlijk al doula zonder het zo te benoemen! Het is absoluut een voorrecht om vrouwen bij te staan tijdens het bijzondere proces van moeder worden, zowel in de zwangerschap als tijdens de bevalling. Mijn kennis van Chinese Geneeskunde en acupunctuur zijn een waardevolle aanvulling op mijn rol als doula en desgewenst van toegevoegde waarde voor zwangeren, ook tijdens de bevalling of post-partum tijdens de borstvoedingsperiode.

Mijn naam is Deborah Meeuwissen. Ik ben 53 jaar, getrouwd, en moeder van twee zonen (18 en 21 jaar). In alles wat er voor, tijdens, en na de geboorte zich afspeelt, ligt mijn passie, dat is de plek waar ik er voor de vrouw en haar partner wil en kan zijn. Mijn werkervaring als gespecialiseerd verpleegkundige op de kraam/verloskunde, en als verpleegkundige op het consultatie bureau heb ik met liefde gedaan. De laatste jaren ben ik in aanraking gekomen met meditatie, yoga en ademhalingstechnieken. Via deze weg ben ik bij de Doula training gekomen. Deze training heb ik als een wedergeboorte van mezelf ervaren. Alsof ik weer thuis kwam bij mezelf daar waar mijn passie ligt. Ik wil met mijn kennis, liefde en respect de magie rondom de geboorte bewaken.

I am Finnish-Irish, mother of two, married to a wonderful Dutch man and living in The Netherlands since 2004. I speak English, Finnish, Dutch and basic French and besides my doula practice work as a visual artist, writer and independent researcher. Working as a Doula is one of the most rewarding and meaningful things for me as a woman and a mother and it is a role that beautifully combines all of my other interests and roles, both private and professional. I am passionate about the interactive movement between the birthing bodies of mother and baby, as well as the partner present at labor. My wish is to guide, support and empower the mother-to-be through the emotional and physical stages of labor so that she can have a birth experience which is not only filled with the most up-to-date medical knowledge, but also love, care and respect. I view labor as a life event where not only a baby, but also a mother and a father are being born.

Mijn naam is Wilma Veldhuis. Ik ben 44 jaar en moeder van 2 kinderen. Al mijn hele leven voel ik me erg verbonden met vrouwen. Ik ben jaren werkzaam geweest als maatschappelijk werker in een Blijf van m’n Lijf huis. Op dit moment ben ik betrokken als Doula in het Babyhuis te Dordrecht. Toen ik hoorde van het bestaan van Legacy of Love doula’s werd mijn hart geraakt. Ik vind het zeer bijzonder om me in te mogen zetten voor deze Stichting die het mogelijk maakt om vrouwen de ondersteuning van een Doula te kunnen bieden in een periode in het leven waarin dit niet vanzelfsprekend is. In mijn rol als Doula probeer ik zo goed mogelijk in verbinding aan te sluiten bij de behoefte, wensen en verlangens van de vrouw. Ik geloof in de immense kracht die in iedere vrouw schuil gaat en vind het mooi om deze kracht te helpen ontvouwen! Ik gun iedere vrouw een bevalling die zo ontspannen mogelijk verloopt en waar ze met een mooie herinnering op terug kan kijken!

My name is Naomie. I am a native Kenyan/British citizen, a mother of two and married to a lovely Dutch husband. I have been living in The Netherlands for the last four years. My background is in care. In one position I worked as a support worker in a maternity ward helping mothers after birth and assisting them with general self-care. I then decided to pursue the Doula training in line with my interests in caring for mothers at their most vulnerable and at their time of need. I have extensive experience within care and understand procedures and medical terms. I love meeting people from all walks of life and being a Doula puts me right where I want to be: experiencing together; incorporating my own experiences to helping others in paths I have walked myself and remember only too well. In my spare time I love to read, knit/crochet, work with clay, do art with my children, cook, relax with my husband and listen to music.

I am a 40 year old Australian living in Rotterdam since 2003. I have a background in Genetics and Psychology and have worked as a scientist for many years. In the latter years of my career, I began feeling stifled in the field of pure science and felt that my personality was being crushed by sitting behind a computer all day. I began looking to change my career and do something a little more people orientated. Becoming a Doula had been on my mind for a while and it soon became clear to me that this was something that I wanted to embrace. It means a lot to me to support and empower women (and men) during pregnancy and birth, as well as educating society that birthing does not have to be scary but can be a wonderful, magical experience. To date, I have been working with several refugees. It has been especially rewarding to help and stand by those women who may not at the time have friends and loved ones around them to help and guide them through this experience.

I was born in Latvia and I live in the Netherlands since 2008. Together with my dear Dutch husband we have three amazing children who still to the day are my greatest teachers in life. A little while ago I was working as an operations manager organising trade shows, which taught me to deal with very different situations and to work with very different people. Now I’m enjoying to the fullest being a mother and a doula. I’m also a certified HypnoBirthing educator. “If you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change” is a HypnoBirthing slogan that I fully agree with. I try to help families that I am supporting through the pregnancy and the birth to see the birth in a natural light, as it really is. Let’s leave all the drama for Hollywood. As a doula I try to shelter birthing mother and her partner from the rest of the world so they can experience calm and relaxed welcoming of their child. I encourage and giving suggestions to the partner and step in as needed.
